Ring Warming Ceremony

A lot of my couples ask me how they can incorporate their guests into their ceremony, and my first answer is always with a "Ring Warming Ceremony".

A "Ring Warming Ceremony" is when you pass among your loved ones the wedding bands and allow them to "warm" your rings with good wishes, blessings or a prayer before you exchange them with your partner.

This is a great way to let the guests know how important they are to you and how much you appreciate them for being there, giving them some sort of ownership in the wedding and ultimately, making them feel more welcomed and involved.

Hot it works:

The "Ring Warming Ceremony" can be done either right before or during the ceremony, if during the ceremony, this will happen before you say your vows and exchange rings.

If choose to do it before the ceremony, here are a few tips:

  • Set-up a small table placed by the ceremony location visible to all guests

  • Secure the rings. Attach the rings to a ribbon and place them on either a small open container for easy access or hanging from a table stand

  • Inform your guests. Create a small sign that explains what guests are supposed to do

If choose to do it during the ceremony, here are a few tips:

  • Have a ring chaperon. Assign someone from your immediate family, BFF or someone from your bridal party to be the responsible person AKA ring chaperon for the rings and to keep track of the rings as guests pass them around

  • Secure your rings. Attach the rings to a ribbon to keep them together and avoid loosing one (or both of them!)

  • Keep your guests informed! Ask your officiant to explain what is happening and what guests are supposed to do before they start passing the rings around.
